Looking to build a metal carport? If so, you should consider using light gauge steel materials. These materials offer plenty of benefits you can enjoy in the long run.
What is cold-formed steel, and how does it work?
In some cases, cold-formed steel members (also known as light gauge steel) are made from structural-quality sheet steel that has been shaped either through the use of a free-braking blank that has been sheared from sheets or coils or more commonly, through the use of a series of dies to roll form the steel. Because neither approach, unlike hot-formed structural I-beams, necessitates the use of heat to make the shape, the term “cold-formed” steel was coined. Light gauge steel products are often thinner, faster to make, and cheaper to make than hot-formed steel products.
Steel framing has a number of advantages
- Steel studs and joists are robust, lightweight, and built of uniformly high-quality material. They are also affordable. Steel walls are straight and have square corners, which virtually eliminates the appearance of pops in drywall. As a result, the need for costly callbacks and changes is almost completely eliminated.
- During the construction and living phases, cold-formed steel is coated to prevent rusting from occurring. The use of hot-dip zinc galvanizing can extend the life of steel framing by up to 250 years.
- Lion Carports’ customers appreciate the fire safety and termite protection provided by steel framing. Steel does not contribute any flammable material to a fire’s fuel supply.
- Hurricanes and earthquakes can create wind and seismic stress, and steel-framed structures can be constructed to withstand these forces. Steel’s strength and ductility make it possible for it to meet the most stringent wind and seismic ratings set by national construction codes and standards.
- Steel joists and trusses are able to span longer distances, which allows for bigger inside areas.
- Steel frame members can be joined together simply by screwing them together.
- Lion Carports provides the option to penalize your walls or trusses to some extent in order to make your dwellings more cost-effective and to save you time and money during the entire construction process.
We are concerned about the environment.
Steel is a recyclable material. At 66 percent, the steel industry has the highest overall recycling rate of any business in the world, making it the most environmentally friendly. Steel framing scrap is a precious material that should not be disposed of in a landfill environment. Today, recycled content makes up about 25% of the total weight of the steel that is made.
